THE ART FUND PAVILION
________________________________________

This is an opportunity to celebrate the dynamic, unpredictable and ever changing nature of the environmental conditions at The Lightbox site in Woking, England.

The proposed pavilion is completely enclosed and self-contained. However, when in use, it is dynamically severed into two independent forms creating a natural divide that exposes the interior structure to the exterior–establishing an indistinct demarcation of interior and exterior space. An emphasis is placed on optimizing the existing environmental situation and creating an experience for the user even during the most adverse weather conditions.

The three primary functions of the pavilion are all supported by the divisional exposure either as a source of natural light, a spatial divider or as a method of wayfinding. Since the two units of the pavilion are completely independent, there is an opportunity to rearrange and modify the spatial conditions to suit any particular exhibition, lecture series or social gathering – or any combination of the above scenarios.

The pavilion is composed of semi-modular units designed as a creative adaptation of the existing Facit cassette module. Each component can be used in correlation with the building, manufacturing and construction techniques that Facit currently utilizes.
